2026 Creepy Crawly Rally - Mossvale, NSW

Friday 20 to Sunday 22 November 2026

2026 Creepy Crawly Rally

Run under the auspices of the South Eastern Australia Region of the Horseless Carriage Club of America, this year’s event will be based in Moss Vale, NSW.

Surrounded by rolling farmlands, neat vineyards and meandering waterways, Moss Vale is a great base for exploring the region, with leafy streets lined with colonial buildings, chic boutiques and delicious restaurants.

This event is called a Creepy Crawly because it is primarily designed for the less powerful veteran cars. However, if you don’t have one, or one isn’t running, you can bring a more powerful veteran car BUT don’t then complain that the runs are too short. The event is being run in the Southern Highlands region of New South Wales so although we have chosen relatively flat routes you will have to change gears occasionally.

Acknowledgement

This rally will take you to many attractions that have significant entry fees. However, this rally will be very affordable due to the generous support of the Paul Butler Bequest administered by the National Trust (NSW).

Our heartfelt thanks to the National Trust. I am sure they will tell you more about this organisation on one of our tours.

The Itinerary

Friday 20 November

Friday morning we head to the Village of Exeter where we will enjoy an early lunch / brunch at the General Store.

Then wander across the road to watch croquet at the Southern Highlands Croquet Club. Pay attention because you’re up next! Yes, we are going to have a hands on introduction to croquet.

I believe that as you get better it’s a very tactical game but we won’t get quite that far in one session. Please note that flat heeled shoes – sneakers are required to enter the courts.

Then a short drive to Golden Vale Homestead, a National Trust property described as “An English pleasure ground in the heart of Sutton Forest”.

Saturday 21 November
On Saturday we head to Bowral. Our first stop is another National Trust property, Retford Park House, for a tour of the house and a stroll through the gardens. It was built in 1887 by the Hordern family and lavishly redesigned by James Fairfax in the 1960s.

We then head to the Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens for lunch before heading into Bowral to experience the amazing Fairground Follies.

It is quite probably the best collection in the world of large scale mechanical music machines such as dance hall organs, violin playing machines and so, so much more.

Sunday 22 November
Sunday morning we head to the historic town of Berrima where we will have a tour of Harper’s Mansion, a beautiful mansion built in 1834 with charming gardens and one of the largest hedge mazes in Australia, all overlooking historic Berrima.

Then visit Berrima Courthouse Museum before dining in one of the many historic cafes and pubs. There are oodles of historic buildings, antique shops and lots more to explore.

After lunch, return to Moss Vale via New Berrima.

Suggested accommodation

The official rally headquarters is Moss Vale Village Park which is situated at 43/53 Willow Drive, Moss Vale, NSW. Their phone number is (02) 4868 1099.

While they have caravan and camping sites still available all of their cabins have been booked as a result of a very large wedding. There is plenty of room out the front of the park to leave a secured trailer. You could also book a site for a trailer.

If you want a cabin or a motel room you are probably best booking one in Mittagong, which is only 16 km away. There will be other rally entrants with you in Mittagong and we will probably schedule some of our evening meals there.
