2022 RACV Midwinter Rally

Friday 8th - Sunday 10th July

Welcome to the 2022 RACV Midwinter Rally Information Page

This long awaited event on the Mornington Peninsula is finally becoming a reality, despite the ordeal of our COVID world and the restrictions that were, and to some extent, are still thrust upon us.

We have been working hard for 2 1/2 years to present this, the 3rd iteration of this signature event for the VCCA (Vic)

We want to say thanks to the RACV for their continued support and to our club members for their participation and bravery to tackle another jaunt in our neck of the woods, in the dead of winter.

We started preparing for this event 30 months ago and the planning and revised planning have developed what we hope will be an enjoyable tour of the country side, Westernport and Port Phillip Bays, as well as a chance to check out the Heads; the entrance to Port Phillip Bay and of course Melbourne.

Read the Accommodation section below and book now so you don’t miss out.

The Itinerary

Friday – For those arriving on Friday afternoon, we have planned an afternoon shake down run.  This will be a bit of a putt around the area ending up back at the country club where we can enjoy a drink and nibbles in the lounge. Drinks can be purchased at bar prices.

The consensus for dinner is that we get together, informally, and eat at the country club.

Saturday – The tour starts from the country club carpark.  We will kick off around 8.30am and proceed along scenic country lanes to the Westernport side of the peninsula.  This will be part of our nautical effort.

First stop will be the HMAS Otama’s museum for morning tea and a guided tour of the much maligned and inaccurately reported “sunken” submarine.
Then a short drive to The Balnarring Hall to enjoy a boxed lunch and tea and coffee.

Next on our itinerary will be the Pt. Leo Estate Sculpture Park to browse the gardens and some of the 60, mostly large scale works.  You will have ample time to return to your accommodation in preparation for the evening dinner.

The 3 course Rally Dinner will be served in the dinning room at the Rosebud Country Club.  Drinks will be available at bar prices. As usual, during the dinner you will have the opportunity to select your favourite and show your support for the entrants in the Cold Start Competition.

Sunday – Sunday morning will see the Cold Start competition in “full swing” in the carpark of the Fairways Resort.  We will then set off to explore the Port Phillip Bay region.

First stop is the Quarantine Station at Point Nepean. Walk the tracks of this State Park or take the shuttle bus to the Fort.
Keep an eye on the time because lunch will be served just a few kilometres away at the Boneo Discovery Park.

The rally will conclude following lunch, when we can return to load our cars and head home.
